Dynamos

On Dynamos nobody stands still. Ever. Trains, cars, bicycles, and planes race in every direction; houses glide along rails, streetlights swing like pendulums, and the traffic lights, so as not to get bored, jog in place. Even time, the locals say, runs a little faster here.

Dynamians measure their lives in miles per hour: they introduce themselves by stating how fast they’re going, and they take offense if anyone calls them “slow.” The only nearly motionless spots on the planet are a small island with an airport and the mountaintops, where cyclists catch their breath for a moment before plunging back downhill. Standing still by the side of the road is considered eccentric behavior, almost suspicious.

The moment she landed, Kinesys got hooked onto a conveyor belt. Dord spent hours complaining about the lack of reliable schedules, but then was pleased to discover that on Dynamos speeds, times, and distances always add up, if you do the math right. Liz has never had so much fun driving. M00N waves at everyone who goes by, which means waving at everyone, all the time.
